30 August 2011: The Latest Transfer Rumours

With the transfer deadline upon us, I will take the next two days to touch basis on the latest rumours and speculation in world football. Let s get started.

Arsenal

This should come as no surprise to anyone who follows football. Following a humiliating 8-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford, Arsene Wenger is finally looking to strengthen his squad.

The latest reports have Brazilian left-back Andre Santos (Fenerbahce S.K.), Florent Malouda (Chelsea FC), Alex (Chelsea FC), Yossi Benayoun (Chelsea), and Gary Cahill (Bolton Wanderers). By the looks of it, Wenger is trying to sign all of Chelsea s B team. Is that really going to help the Gunners versus the biggest clubs in the Premier League? I highly doubt it.

Inter Milan

The Nerazzurri are reportedly close to acquiring Uruguayan forward Diego Forlan from Atletico Madrid. Good signing? Great signing. Forlan is an ideal replacement for Samuel Eto o. Although he may not score as many goals, his passing, crossing, and hold up play is absolutely superb. Dutch starlet Luc Castaignos will be one of the strikers to reap the benefits of Forlan making the switch to the Serie A.

Forlan addressed the media following his move to the San Siro.

Farewells are always hard, because it has been four years plus the three at Villarreal and now I will be leaving behind people s kindness, which I will never forget, said Forlan.

I am looking forward very much to rejuvenating myself, it s all new and it s where you find motivation because the challenges are greater.

You don t often get a chance to go to Inter at the age of 32 and I hope I can live up to the expectations.

I am here to continue winning with Inter. My goal is to play and score as much as possible for my new team.

Bani Yas

According to Gulf News, UAE club Bani Yas are reportedly set to signing former French international David Trezeguet to a one year deal worth around 1.7 million euros. Shocking news to be honest. Trezeguet still has the ability to perform in top European leagues. All that being said, good for Bani Yas. They have just bought a solid player who should score many goals in the UAE League in 2011-12.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United are lining up an eye-opening deal for Inter Milan full-back Davide Santon. The Magpies have made a number of great signings this summer, including Gabriel Obertan, Yohan Cabaye, and Demba Ba. Santon s agent Claudio Vigorelli confirmed the speculation after he told Corriere dello Sport, At this time there is no possibility that Santon can join Roma because right now the aim is Newcastle. If the Toon can secure Santon, look out for Newcastle United. They could certainly make a case for a Europa League spot next season. Not too shabby for a team that was just promoted from the Championship last season.
